Chicks is partnering with East Coast Avalanche Education to provide our members with Intro to Backcountry 101. This course will take place on Saturday, February 8th. The course will consist of a one-day field session in Bolton Backcountry. We will provide transportation to and from the course.
This intro course focuses on terrain recognition and avoiding exposure to avalanche paths. Students can expect to learn the following:
Basic backcountry travel tips and tricks
The basic safety equipment necessary for winter travel
How to find and comprehend the avalanche advisory and basic weather forecasts
The importance of preparation and training, since most avalanche accidents are triggered by the people involved
Where avalanches can and cannot occur, and how to create a plan for managing risk in the backcountry
